1. Design Preparation for Sublimation

Design preparation is a critical step in the sublimation process. Here’s how to do it:

Create or select your design using graphic software like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or Photoshop.
Ensure the design is in high resolution for the best results.
Mirror the design before printing. This is crucial because during the sublimation transfer, the design will be flipped onto the acrylic surface.
Choose colors that are vibrant and will stand out on the acrylic.

2. Printing the Design for Sublimation

Printing is the next essential step in the sublimation process. Follow these guidelines:

Load sublimation paper into your sublimation printer correctly. Make sure the printable side of the paper is facing the right way.
Use sublimation ink specifically designed for your printer.
Print your mirrored design onto the sublimation paper. Ensure the print settings are optimized for high quality.
Allow the ink to dry completely before moving to the next step.

3. Preparing the Acrylic for Sublimation

Preparation of the acrylic sheet is vital to ensure the sublimation ink adheres properly. Here’s what to do:

Measure and cut the acrylic sheet to the desired size and shape if it’s not pre-cut. Use appropriate tools for a clean cut.
Clean the acrylic surface thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. Remove all dust, fingerprints, and oils to ensure a smooth transfer.
Double-check for any remaining debris, as even small particles can affect the quality of the sublimation transfer.

4. Positioning the Design on the Acrylic

Accurate positioning of the design is crucial in the sublimation process. Here’s how to do it:

Use heat-resistant tape to secure the sublimation paper in place. This prevents any movement during the heat press process.

5. Applying Heat and Pressure for Sublimation

Preheat the heat press to around 400°F (204°C). This is the optimal temperature for sublimation.
Place a sheet of protective paper on the bottom platen of the heat press. This prevents any ink from transferring onto the platen.
Position the acrylic with the sublimation paper on top of the protective paper.
Cover the acrylic and sublimation paper with another sheet of protective paper to protect the top platen.
Press the acrylic for 60 seconds, applying firm and even pressure. Ensure the entire surface is covered by the heat press.

6. Cooling and Peeling After Sublimation
